3:00 pm - 5:00 pm Mongolian Cultural Days at Lively Run Dairy
Every Friday afternoon, step into the heart of Mongolia—right here in the Finger Lakes! Join us free family-friendly cultural activities, games, music, and traditions that bring nomadic heritage to life. Each week offers something new:
- Sept 5 – Ankle Bone Shooting Game
Discover Mongolia’s favorite traditional pastime—played with real sheep ankle bones! There are over 20 different ankle-bone games in Mongolia, from horse racing to building towers, but the most exciting one is ankle-bone shooting, now even a national sport. Fun for kids and adults! - Sept 12 – Wooden Horse Racing + Horse Culture
Cheer for hand-crafted wooden horses in this playful and lively racing game. In Mongolia, horse racing is one of the “Three Manly Games” of the Festival. Unlike short American races, Mongolian horses run 15–30 km across open fields, ridden by fearless child jockeys. It’s not just a sport—it’s a celebration of endurance, culture, and the deep bond between nomads and their horses.
When you ride your wooden horse, you’ll feel just like a Mongolian nomad on the wide open steppe—come join us! - Sept 19 – Music Day: Mongolian Long Song
Experience the deep, soulful sounds of Mongolian long song—music that echoes across the steppe. - Sept 26 – Mongolian Animals + Kids Drawing
Kids explore art inspired by Mongolia’s unique animals through fun drawing activities.
